Recording or uploading a session

A session becomes a summary one of two ways: you record it live inside Dive, or you upload an existing audio file. Both options live on the same screen — pick whichever fits the moment.

  1. Open the patient profile, or pick the patient from the start-recording screen.

  2. Click Record.

  3. The audio visualizer appears — this is your cue that microphone input is being captured. If the bars don’t move, check your microphone permission in the browser.

  • A timer shows elapsed time.
  • The visualizer stays active so you can confirm at a glance that audio is still being captured.
  • You can pause and resume; only active audio is kept.
  1. Click Stop when the session ends.

  2. Pick the method type that fits this session (for example: therapy, intake, family). Method types are sorted by how often you use them so your top picks float to the top.

  3. Click Summarize. The summary is generated in the background and shows up in the patient’s recent summaries.

If the session was recorded outside Dive — on a phone, a different recorder, or from another platform — you can upload the file and Dive will summarize it the same way.

  1. Open the patient profile, or pick the patient from the start-recording screen.

  2. On the recording screen, choose Upload file instead of Record.

  3. Drag the audio file into the drop zone, or click to pick one from disk.

  4. Pick the method type that fits the session, then submit. Dive uploads the file in the background and produces a summary just like a live recording.

Dive accepts:

  • MP3 (.mp3)
  • MP4 / M4A / AAC (.mp4, .m4a, .aac)
  • WAV (.wav)
  • WebM (.webm)

Maximum file size is 150 MB. For longer or larger recordings, compress to MP3 or M4A first.

When you summarize a recording you pick a method type that matches the session (therapy, intake, family session, and so on). Dive sorts your most-used method types to the top of the list automatically, so the picker stays fast even when there are many to choose from.
